Happy Super Bowl Sunday, everybody! I don't care too much for the NFL these days outside of beating my friends at fantasy football. I figured today was an appropriate day for a football card post.
I found this Dominique Rodgers-Chomartie certified autograph from the 2008 Topps Chrome set in a box around the holidays. I don't remember when I bought it but it must have been before we started this blog.
DRC left the desert in the Kevin Kolb trade. Yah let's not talk about that deal and just enjoy this addition to our 2008 Topps collection.

Most of the players on the checklist from the 2008 Topps Chrome certified autos haven't had much of an impact in the big leagues. Felipe Paulino is one who is still hanging around.
He missed some time last year after Tommy John surgery but the Royals recently signed him to a new contract. There's a good chance he'll be back in 2013 sometime after the All-Star break.
This is the first bronze refractor parallel auto for our 2008 Topps collection. We also have Felipe's blue refractor version but we're still missing his base and regular refractor.
I grabbed this one for $3 shipped. Not bad for a card numbered to 50.

After hitting below the Mendoza line in 100+ at bats this season, Daric Barton has found himself back in Triple A again. I'm disappointed for him. When the A's got him from the Cardinals way back in 2004 as part of the Mark Mulder deal, he seemed like a can't miss prospect. Unfortunately he missed.
That means there's not much of a market for his 2008 Topps Chrome certified autos. I paid less than $3 shipped for this blue refractor numbered to 200.
# 226 - Daric Barton - Chrome Blue Refractor
I love these Blue Refractor Certified Autographs. They're super colorful and numbered to only 200. I saw this Evan Meek for a few bucks and grabbed it.
Good news! We added another 1986 Mets certified autograph to our 2008 Topps collection. These were inserted into the Mets 55 card team gift sets. You may remember that we already have Dwight Gooden and Keith Hernandez. Now we've added Darryl Strawberry to go along with them. I'm still on the lookout for the Gary Carter.
# 86-DS - Darryl Strawberry
I just picked up a few new certified autographs from the 2008 Topps Chrome set. I already have quite a few of these but I'm trying to fill in the holes.
Matt Tolbert is one of our new editions.

I've actually had my eye on this card for awhile. It always seemed to go for a little more than I was willing to spend. I like Jeff Salazar and he did some good things for the Diamondbacks in 2008 but I knew if I waited long enough I'd get one for a buck or two shipped. My patience paid off and now this autograph is part of our 2008 Topps collection.# HA-JS - Jeff Salazar - Certified Auto
Hey we just posted the card Seth Smith signed for our base set earlier this month. Now we have his certified auto. Isn't that great?# HA-SS - Seth Smith - Certified Auto
Here's a good example of what Topps can do with the shiny stickers they have had players sign. I'm sure Mike Bacsik never would have guessed his sticker would end up on a card commemorating a home run that he gave up. I'm sure it's a memorable moment but probably not one of his career highlights.# HA-MB - Mike Bacsik - Certified Auto
Next up in our stack of 08 Topps certified autos is Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher, Edinson Volquez. Not too long ago it looked like this guy might be a star. He was even an All-Star in 2008. That was before the suspension for performance-enhancing drugs in 2010. He hasn't been quite as good since.
Last week, he was traded to the San Diego Padres. Maybe I'll see him during Spring Training. I hope so because I still have his All-Star card from the Updates & Highlights set that I need to get signed.# HA-EV - Edinson Volquez - Certified Auto
Every year when my wife asks me what I want for Christmas, she always brings up the fact that she would buy me baseball cards but doesn't know what to get. Completely understandable. Fortunately I have no problem with picking up a few things for myself. This year part of my Christmas present was a small stack of certified autographs from the 2008 Topps set. I'll be doing a post on each of them over the next few days.
First up is former Los Angeles Dodgers catcher, Russell Martin. Russ has a pretty impressive resume. He is a three-time All-Star and has won both a gold glove and silver slugger award. I'm pretty sure this is the first autograph of his of any kind we have.

In yesterday's post I mentioned how I wanted to pick up a few more of the 1986 Mets autographs that were inserted into the 2008 Topps 55 card team gift sets. Well I've got one more to show you and it's a good one... Keith Hernandez!
# 86-KH - Keith Hernandez - Certified Auto
Hands down this is the coolest certified autograph in our 2008 Topps collection. This signed card of Dwight Gooden came from the Mets 55 card team gift set. Topps inserted one autograph of a player from the 1986 Mets into each of the team sets. The team sets alone are pretty hard to find. I was glad to be able to pick up one of the better autographs.
This is just a great card. The orange border really stands out. The sticker is well placed. Hopefully I can pick up a few more of these at a good price.
# 86-DG - Dwight Gooden - Certified Auto
I've been wanting to add a J.R. Towles certified Chrome auto to our collection for awhile now. While I still haven't picked up his regular auto, this Refractor is even better.
# 221 - J.R. Towles - Chrome Refractor ( # 127/500 )
The 2011 Topps Lineage set was released a little over a week ago. Pretty cool set but the checklist for autographs is pretty horrible. Except of course the 2008 Topps Reprint auto of Fausto Carmona. While I don't really understand why they remade cards from the past three years, I'm glad to have a new 08 Topps card to add to our collection.

My dad and I were looking through a box of his baseball cards last week and we found a few certified autographs from the 2008 Topps set.
The final card is from the 2008 Topps Chrome set and is of Tampa Bay Rays star, Sam Fuld.
# 223 - Sam Fuld - Chrome Certfied Auto
My dad and I were looking through a box of his baseball cards last week and we found a few certified autographs from the 2008 Topps set.
The third is of Milwaukee Brewers starter, Yovani Gallardo.

My dad and I were looking through a box of his baseball cards last week and we found a few certified autographs from the 2008 Topps set.
The second is of former Minnesota Twins starter, Matt Garza.# HA-MG - Matt Garza - Certified Auto
My dad and I were looking through a box of his baseball cards last week and we found a few certified autographs from the 2008 Topps set.
The first is of Cleveland Indians pitcher, Fausto Carmona. Thanks, Dad!

Good news! We got our first four blue refractors from the 2008 Topps Chrome set. These are really cool and numbered to only 200.The final one is of Colorado Rockies infielder, Jayson Nix.# 236 - Jayson Nix - Chrome Blue Refractor ( #177/200 )
