# 201 - Matt Capps

Former Pittsburgh Pirates closer, Matt Capps signed a card for our set. Matt was selected to play in the 2010 All-Star game while he was a member of the Washington Nationals. Matt's last big league appearance came in 2012 with the Twins.

I remember Matt best for being one of those cheap closers you could pick up in the late rounds for your fantasy baseball team.

# 266 - Ryan Doumit

Yes! Third 08 Topps post in a row!

This one is of former Pittsburgh Pirates catcher, Ryan Doumit. Ryan left Pittsburgh at the end of 2011 as a free agent and signed with the Minnesota Twins.

This one came to us from the same guy who hooked us up with the Steve Pearce we posted yesterday.

Two 08 Topps posts in a row? Whaaaaat? I couldn't possibly make it three tomorrow could I?

I picked up this Steve Pearce signed 08 Topps card from a friend on SportsGraphing.com earlier this year. It just fell through the cracks and never made it's way to the blog.

After spending a few years with the Pirates, Steve found his way to three different teams in 2012. He played on the Orioles, Astros, and Yankees. Around the end of September the Orioles claimed him off waivers from the Yankees and he is currently back on their roster.

Former Yankees prospect, T.J. Beam signed a card for our set. T.J. is currently playing in the Atlantic League for the Lancaster Barnstormers.

Next up from our 2011 Diamondbacks Fan Fest haul is Xavier Nady. Xavier has previously spent time with the Padres, Mets, Pirates, Yankees, and Cubs. Here is the 2008 Topps Series One card that he signed for us.

Ryan from The Great Orioles Autograph Project sent over a nice package that included three signed 2008 Topps cards for our set.

The first card is of former Pittsburgh Pirates and current Baltimore Orioles shortstop, Cesar Izturis.

Former Pirates infielder, Brian Bixler signed a card for our set. Brian moved around a lot in 2010. To the best of my knowledge he is currently with the Washington Nationals organization.

Raiderdan from SweetSpotGraphs.com hooked us up with six more signed 08 Topps cards.

The next is also of Nate McLouth. Nate has struggled a bit this year with the Atlanta Braves and even found himself back in AAA for awhile. He's back in Atlanta and it looks like he's starting to put up the big numbers we're used to seeing.

We had written to Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher, Paul Maholm last year during the season. Our 08 Topps card came back signed during Spring Training. I guess Paul used some of his free time in Florida to catch up on his mail. We're glad he did!

# 633 - Adam LaRoche

Just got back from a long day at Chase Field. Today was the sixth annual DBacks Fan Fest.


I woke up at 6am this morning with one goal in mind, getting as many 08 Topps cards signed as I could. We did pretty well. We were able to add six new cards for our set plus some other good stuff.

Not sure where to start so I'll begin alphabetically with the 08 Topps cards.

First up, new D-Backs first baseman Adam LaRoche.

Near the end of the season I sent a few cards to a friend on SportsGraphing.com for a 50/50. This one of reliever Evan Meek came back signed. From what I've heard Evan is a really cool guy.

# 48 - Zach Duke

I've been a Zach Duke fan since he made his MLB debut back in 2005. He won his first 5 starts for a dismal Pittsburgh Pirates team and was named National League Rookie of the Month for July. While he hasn't quite matched the success he had during his rookie year, Zach was named to the 2009 National League All-Star team.

This is the fifth and final card from the eBay lot. Zach has been great TTM signer in the past but I haven't seen any successes from him this season. Hopefully we'll still get the 08 Topps card we sent but if not it's not big loss.

Picked up five more signed 2008 Topps cards in a recent eBay auction. None were too exciting but I'm always glad to add a few more cards.

Former big league catcher and current Pittsburgh Pirates manager, John Russell signed a card for our set. The most noteable moment from John's playing career has to be catching Nolan Ryan's 6th career no-hitter.

Got a good, young player back today. Pirates infielder, Andy LaRoche signed his 08 Topps Update card. Andy also has one in Series 1. I'll probably be writing him again pretty quick to see if we can add that one to our set as well. Thanks, Andy!

Finishing up the mail week in good fashion with another card for the set. Today brought Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher, Ian Snell. Back in Spring Training, I was able to get Ian Kinsler to sign a card. That makes two out of three Ian's from this set.
